Hi, I’m Haakon Sande

Born in Alaska and moved to Montana as an ankle-biter. Raised in the Flathead Valley playing in the rivers, mountains and lakes, I can’t imagine living anywhere without them.

Growing up in a musical, outdoor addicted, hyper-independent DIY family, I have had the opportunity to try so many different things. First pursuing engineering, then machining, radiology, fly guiding, welding, and now we’re finally working in an artistic career that scratches that ‘itch’. I have always been fascinated by the how and why of cameras, their lenses, sensors, software, compression algorithms, and recording formats. Now my work can reflect my ability to leverage all of that information into something beautiful.

Was gifted my first real camera during high school and it opened up an endless hobby but a continuing dilemma. How the heck do you frame a shot or a video to convey the feeling and the story of that moment. The euphoria from finally reaching a summit after repeated failures, the serenity of a campfire on the river, the awe of snowy mountains painted with alpenglow. There is no perfect solution for any scenario, but that’s the best part of photography. The challenge of capturing those moments is what makes them beautiful.

My Approach

The challenge with real estate photography is accurately conveying the ‘feeling’ of space without misrepresentation. I’m loathe to shoot images that lie. Sure, a person could shoot everything with a 10mm fisheye and make a 600 ft² single-wide feel like a mansion. What will the clients think when the get to see it for themselves? The choice of focal lengths, apertures, shutter speeds, filters, and color grading are all important factors to my work and how they make the photos & videos ‘feel’.
